Dichroic glass jewelry
like these are made from sheets of glass that are coated with metallic
inside in a high temperature, vacuum furnace. The resulting raw dichroic
glass sheets have the quality of reflecting the opposite color of the
transmitted light. Dichroic glass is a perfect color filter material that
was developed for use in critical scientific applications. Glass artists
have found that this new material also makes great jewelry. They cut the
raw sheets into shapes and layer it with other types of glass. Then the
glass is kiln fired to fuse the layers together. The ones you see here are handmade by three San Francisco artists, Catlin Adami, Eusi Pease and Janie Tanaka. More of their work is available for sale from the ThaiAm web site in the dichroic glass section. Click here to see more. |
